Illegal Parking Persists in New Market Despite Minister's Visit
In the New Market area, cars and two-wheelers are still being parked illegally despite a visit by the urban development minister, Agnimitra Paul.
On Sunday, many vehicles were seen parked on Lindsay Street and Jawaharlal Nehru Road, ignoring no-parking signs.
Some cars had stickers indicating they were government or army vehicles.
The minister had directed the police to fine illegal parkers and install more no-parking signs.
Shop owners and employees complain that parked vehicles block their entrances and that vehicle owners often respond rudely.
The minister also instructed hawkers to keep their stalls within yellow demarcation lines to ensure pedestrian space.
However, little change was observed on Sunday, with vehicles still parked illegally and hawkers complying with the new rules.
