Over 1,500 Foreign Nationals Receive Organ Transplants in India
Last year, more than 1,500 people from different countries came to India to get new organs.
Most of these organs came from their own family members, but some came from Indian people who had passed away.
India did 3,526 transplants using organs from people who had died.
However, not many people in India donate organs after they die, so there are still many people waiting for transplants.
Foreigners only get organs from deceased Indian donors if no Indian patient needs them first.
Over 1,500 foreign nationals from 63 countries received organ transplants in India in 2025.
Most transplants involved organs from living relatives, with 11 foreign nationals receiving organs from deceased Indian donors.
India performed 3,526 organ transplants using organs from deceased donors in 2025.
Deceased organ donation rates in India are less than 1 per million population.
Foreign nationals receive organs from deceased Indian donors only if no Indian patient is matched in time.
