APUWJ Seeks Journalist Protection Law and Welfare Measures

The Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists wants stronger support and protection for journalists.

Its state president, IV Subbarao, spoke at a meeting in Anantapur.

He asked the state to create a law protecting journalists, similar to one in Maharashtra.

The union also wants a ₹100 crore welfare fund.

It is seeking house sites and monthly pensions for retired journalists older than 58.

The group plans to begin a phased protest on October 2.

It also said accidental insurance may be restored.

Leaders want journalists to work together to strengthen their union.
