Gyaneshwari Yadav Wins Silver in CWG 2026
Gyaneshwari Yadav, a 23-year-old weightlifter from Bhondiya village in Chhattisgarh, won a silver medal in the women's 53kg category at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland.
She lifted a total of 199kg, which included 88kg in the snatch and 111kg in the clean and jerk.
Gyaneshwari's performance was impressive, especially in the snatch, where all her lifts were clean and composed.
However, she was narrowly beaten by Nigeria's Onome Omolola Didih, who set new Commonwealth and Games records with a total lift of 206kg.
The competition was intense, with both lifters repeatedly breaking and reclaiming Games records.
This silver medal is India's fourth in weightlifting and fifth overall at the current Commonwealth Games.
