Mizoram Seizes Over 1,100 Smuggled Exotic Wildlife Since 2020
Imagine someone is sneaking in animals from other countries into Mizoram.
Since 2020, the government has caught over 1,100 of these smuggled animals!
Most of them are lizards.
They work with the army, police, and others to catch the smugglers.
These animals get sent to the zoo, but they are often sick from their trip.
The zoo also helps injured animals from the state, like helping them get better and releasing them back into the wild.
Mizoram authorities have seized 1,103 smuggled exotic animals since June 2020.
The seizures were made with the support of multiple law enforcement agencies.
The majority of confiscated animals were lizards.
Many animals arrive at the Aizawl Zoological Garden in poor health.
The zoo also rehabilitates injured native wildlife.
