No Illegal Coal Extraction in Odisha: Centre
The government says there has been no illegal or extra coal mining in Odisha's Sundargarh district over the past three years.
The Minister of Coal and Mines told the Rajya Sabha that the government checks the mines regularly.
They look at air quality, how the land is being used, and make sure everything is done correctly.
If there are any problems, they can fine the companies or even stop their work.
They also study how the mining affects people and the environment.
No violations of illegal or excess coal extraction reported in Odisha's Sundargarh district over the past three years.
Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) periodically reviews environmental compliance of coal mines.
Reviews include air quality monitoring, land reclamation activities, satellite imagery, and on-site inspections.
Actions for non-compliance include penalties, environmental compensation, and suspension of operations.
Socio-economic studies are part of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for coal mining projects.
