Afghan National Arrested for Alleged ISIS-K Links
An Afghan man named Jaan Shah Safi was arrested in Virginia for possibly being connected to a terrorist group called ISIS-K.
He came to the US in 2021 under a program that helped Afghans who worked with NATO.
The program is called Operation Allies Welcome.
The US government says he supported ISIS-K and gave weapons to his father, who is a leader of a militia in Afghanistan.
This arrest happened after two other Afghan men, who also came to the US under the same program, were involved in separate incidents.
One of them shot and killed a National Guard member in Washington DC, and the other made bomb threats in Texas.
Jaan Shah Safi, an Afghan national, was arrested in Waynesboro, Virginia, for alleged links to ISIS-K.
Safi entered the US in September 2021 under Operation Allies Welcome, a program for Afghans who worked with NATO.
His application for Temporary Protected Status was terminated after the program's protection for Afghans ended.
Safi is accused of supporting ISIS-K and providing weapons to his father, a militia commander in Afghanistan.
This arrest follows two other recent incidents involving Afghan nationals who came to the US under the same program.
