Kolkata Metro to Upgrade Cooling Systems in Stations
The Kolkata Metro is upgrading the cooling systems in 11 of its underground stations.
They are swapping out the old water-based coolers for new ones that use air instead.
This project will begin in 2026 and should be done by 2029.
The government is giving them money to pay for it.
The best part is, they will save a lot of water every year, about as much as is needed to fill a lot of swimming pools.
This will help protect the environment and water resources.
Kolkata Metro is replacing the cooling systems in 11 underground stations on the Blue Line.
The change involves switching from water-cooled chillers to air-cooled chillers.
A tender has been opened, and work is expected to start in 2026 and finish by 2029.
The project is funded by a Rs 150 crore allotment from the Centre.
The new system is expected to save 18 crore liters of groundwater annually.
