Hariyali Amavasya 2026: Rituals for Pitru Tarpan Before Tithi Ends

Hariyali Amavasya is a special day in the Hindu calendar that happens once a year.

Tonight, the Amavasya Tithi, or the moonless night, will come to an end.

On this day, many people honor their ancestors with a ritual called Pitru Tarpan.

To do this, they mix black sesame seeds and Kusha grass in water.

Then they face the South direction and pour the water onto the ground.

People also believe that giving to charity on this day is a wonderful way to please Lord Shiva.

Some people offer sacred plants like bel, peepal, banyan, or shami to temples.

Others water trees to care for nature, which matches the spirit of this green festival.

In the evening, families light a ghee lamp and chant the Shiv Chalisa prayer.

This is especially helpful if they missed the morning worship.
