Telugu Producers Debate: Cheque Signers or True Producers?
A very famous movie director in India, Ram Gopal Varma, asked a big question: are people who give money to make movies really 'producers'?
He said many of them are just investors who sign the checks and do not help make the movie.
Some other movie makers agreed and said these part-time producers make movies cost too much money.
One producer, Vishnu Induri, said movies have started to look like a risky gamble.
Another producer, D. Suresh Babu, disagreed and said there is no single right way to be a producer.
He said some producers help with everything, while others let directors decide everything, and both ways can make great movies.
A producer named Abhishek Nama said a good producer takes care of the movie's money and plans without ruining the creative ideas.
Now the whole Telugu movie world is talking about how producers should work with directors and stars to make good films.
Ram Gopal Varma sparked the debate by saying many of today's Telugu 'producers' are actually just investors who leave scripts, budgets, and key decisions to directors and stars.
Producer Vishnu Induri argued the producer's role has not changed and that investors posing as producers have escalated costs, paid premiums for dates, and made cinema look like a gamble.
Veteran producer D. Suresh Babu said there is no single producer model, citing Pushpa and Dhurandhar as equally valid approaches that give directors creative freedom.
Abhishek Nama said a producer is 'the guardian of the film's vision, budget, and accountability' and must approve what is financially feasible without interfering creatively.
T.G. Vishwa Prasad said Telugu cinema is cycling back to the producer-and-content era, while Jhanvi Narang believes the correction may already be underway.
