PWD Misses Desilting Deadline, Extends to June 30
The Public Works Department (PWD) was supposed to clean the drains by June 15th before the monsoon season.
However, they only finished 60% of the cleaning work.
The PWD minister had set the deadline earlier in June.
They have cleaned about half of the total drain length so far.
Some areas did better than others.
Now, they have more time to finish the job, with the new deadline set to June 30th.
PWD completed only 60% of the desilting work by the initial June 15 deadline.
The PWD minister had set June 15 as the deadline to complete the desilting of all PWD-managed drains.
Desilting has been completed for 1,294 km out of the total 2,140 km drain length under PWD.
South West Region-2 completed 100% of desilting, while West Road-2 division showed the poorest performance.
