Khatik community seeks temple animal sacrifice cutting rights in Telangana
In Telangana, there is a community of people called the Khatik community.
For many generations, they have helped with a special religious job near temples.
In some temples, people offer goats, sheep, or chickens as part of their religious customs.
The Khatik community is the one that prepares these animals for the offering.
The community says this is their traditional family job, passed down from their ancestors.
Now, the community has asked the state government to make sure this work is given to them.
They met a government minister and gave him a letter about their request.
They also asked for a fair and open system so everything is clean and safe.
The community says they will keep asking peacefully until the government makes a fair decision.
Telangana State Are Katika (Khatik) Sangh demanded that religious animal cutting services near temples be given to the Khatik community.
Community leaders submitted a representation to BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar requesting mutton cutting contracts for the community.
The Sangh says the work is the community's traditional hereditary occupation (Kula Vrutti), like the services of Archakas and Nai-Brahmin communities.
Leaders demanded a transparent public tender system for temples where goats, sheep, and chickens are sacrificed, to protect temple revenue and ensure hygiene.
The representation has been forwarded to Endowments Minister Konda Surekha; leaders pledged to continue efforts peacefully and lawfully.
