PM Gandhi Pledges Twin War on Terrorism; Gen Vaidya Cremated

Many years ago, in 1986, the leader of the country, Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, talked about a big problem called terrorism, when bad people use violence to scare others.

Some people were worried that this problem was spreading to other parts of the country.

Mr. Gandhi said there are two ways to fight it: talk and solve problems peacefully, and make the police and safety teams stronger.

Around the same time, a very important army general named Vaidya was hurt by bad people with guns, and he died.

At his cremation, many important leaders came to say a sad goodbye.

His body was given to the flames, which is a special ceremony in some traditions.

Everyone felt very sad because he was a brave leader of the army.

People still remember what Mr. Gandhi said about stopping violence with both talking and strong rules together.
