Census 2027 Houselisting to Start April 2026
The Indian government has announced that the first part of the Census 2027, called houselisting, will start on April 1, 2026, and end on September 30, 2026.
This means people will go door-to-door to list all houses and buildings.
Before that, people can fill out information about their homes themselves for 15 days.
The main counting of people will happen in February 2027.
This census will also collect information about castes for the first time since the British period.
It will be the first fully digital census, using mobile apps to collect data.
The last census in 2011 counted over 1.2 billion people in India.
Houselisting operations for Census 2027 will be conducted from April 1 to September 30, 2026.
Self-enumeration will be available for 15 days before the house-to-house operations begin.
Population enumeration is scheduled for February 2027.
Census 2027 will include caste data collection for the first time since the British period.
