Central Railway to Upgrade Trains with LHB Coaches
Central Railway is going to make some trains better by replacing old coaches with new ones called LHB coaches.
These new coaches are safer and more comfortable.
They have features like better brakes, more space, and lights that last longer.
The change will happen in eight trains starting in mid-January 2026.
The new coaches can go faster and have special windows and charging points for passengers.
This is part of a bigger plan to make all trains in India safer and more comfortable.
Central Railway will replace conventional ICF coaches with modern LHB coaches in eight trains starting mid-January 2026.
The affected trains include CSMT–Chennai Express, Pune–Veraval Express, Pune–Bhagat ki Kothi Express, Pune–Bhuj Express, Pune–Ahmedabad Express, Kolhapur–Nagpur Express, Kolhapur–Hazrat Nizamuddin Express, and Kolhapur–Ahmedabad Express.
LHB coaches offer enhanced safety features such as anti-climbing devices, fire-retardant materials, and disc brakes.
Passenger-centric features include longer car bodies, LED lighting, 5-pin charging sockets, and emergency windows.
LHB coaches have a higher operating speed of 160 km/h with a design speed up to 200 km/h, compared to 140 km/h of older ICF coaches.
