Chalukya Gold Coins Found in Godavari
Some people found special gold coins in a river in India.
These coins are from a long time ago, during the rule of the Kalyani Chalukyas.
The coins have a lion picture and some letters in a special writing called Kannada.
Experts think these coins were made by a king named Jayasimha II.
This is the first time these kinds of coins have been found, and they help us learn more about the history of that time and place.
People might have put these coins in the river as a gift to the river goddess.
Gold coins of the Kalyani Chalukyas dynasty were found in the Godavari river bed at Dharmapuri, Telangana.
The coins include 200 fanams and 120-mg quarter fanams, measuring 4 to 6 mm in diameter and weighing 80 mg and 120 mg respectively.
The coins bear a lion symbol and letters in Kannada script, believed to be issued by Emperor Jayasimha II (1015-1042 CE).
This is the first confirmed find of Kalyani Chalukyas coins, filling a gap in the numismatic history of Telangana.
The coins were likely offered to the river goddess as a tribute, a common religious tradition.
