Madras High Court Orders Special Probe Into Madurai Prison Corruption

Madras High Court Orders Special Probe Into Madurai Prison Corruption

The Madras High Court wants a special team to investigate possible corruption at Madurai Central Prison.

The allegations involve stationery made at the prison and supplied to government offices.

A petitioner said officials may have recorded deliveries that were bigger than what was actually supplied.

He said this could have caused the loss of several crores of rupees.

The court ordered the investigation to be completed and reported within four months.

It warned that another agency could take over if the state and the vigilance department did not act properly.

The court also said prison officials could face departmental action at the same time.

The allegations still have to be investigated and proved.
