Ugandan Opposition Claims 300+ Supporters Detained in Campaign
In Uganda, the opposition leader Bobi Wine is running for president against the long-time leader, President Museveni.
Since the campaign started last month, over 300 of Bobi Wine's supporters and officials have been detained by the police.
The opposition says the government is trying to scare people and stop them from supporting Bobi Wine.
The police say they are just controlling crowds because some people were throwing stones and hurting officers.
Bobi Wine says the last election was not fair, but the ruling party disagrees.
If Museveni wins again, he will have been in power for almost 50 years.
Over 300 supporters and officials of Bobi Wine's National Unity Platform (NUP) have been detained since campaigning began last month.
Recent arrests occurred in Kampala, where Wine started campaigning on Monday, with at least 100 arrested on Monday and dozens more on Tuesday.
Security forces used tear gas, water cannons, and pepper spray to disperse crowds and control what they described as 'rowdy' behavior.
Police accused Wine's supporters of throwing stones and injuring seven officers, leading to the detentions.
Bobi Wine alleges that President Museveni won the last election through fraudulent means, a claim dismissed by the ruling party.
