Nearly 5.9 Lakh Apply for West Bengal Teaching Jobs
Imagine a lot of people wanting to be teachers in West Bengal!
Almost 600,000 people applied for a new teaching job.
This is because some old teacher jobs had problems, so the highest court said they needed to start over.
The court also said they had to finish the hiring by the end of the year.
Many teachers who weren't found to have cheated in the past reapplied for jobs this time.
Nearly 5.9 lakh candidates applied for 35,726 teaching positions in West Bengal schools.
The application numbers nearly doubled compared to 2016.
The recruitment drive follows a Supreme Court order to address corruption in the 2016 appointments.
The online application portal closed on July 21, with the recruitment process to be completed by December 31.
A significant number of teachers from the 2016 recruitment, not found specifically tainted, reapplied.
