Bangladesh to Import Diesel from Assam Refinery
Bangladesh is buying a lot of diesel from a big oil company in India called Numaligarh Refinery.
They will get 1.8 lakh tonnes of diesel, which is a huge amount, and it will cost a lot of money.
The deal is part of a big agreement that was made a long time ago.
The money will come from the government and also from loans.
This is not the first time they are buying diesel from this company; they did it before in January.
A special group in the government said it was okay to buy this diesel.
Bangladesh will import 1.8 lakh tonnes of diesel from Numaligarh Refinery Limited in Assam.
The deal is worth 1,462 crore taka (Rs 1,076 crore) and will be funded partly by the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation and partly through bank loans.
The import is part of a 15-year agreement signed by the previous government.
The advisory committee on government purchases, chaired by Salehuddin Ahmed, approved the proposal.
In January 2025, the interim government had already approved the import of 1.3 lakh tonnes of diesel from the same refinery.
