Sikkim Opens Cho La, Dok La
The government of Sikkim, India, opened two very high mountain passes, Cho La and Dok La, for people to visit.
These passes are near the border with China and are important because of past events between India and China.
The Chief Minister of Sikkim, Prem Singh Tamang, started the opening by sending 25 motorbikes and tourist vehicles from Gangtok.
The passes are very high up, with Dok La being 15,600 feet tall.
The government wants people to learn about the history and the bravery of the soldiers who protected these areas.
They also want to help the local people by creating jobs through tourism.
Tourists can visit these places for two days and stay in homestays.
The government is working to make sure the visits are safe and to build more facilities for tourists.
Cho La and Dok La passes at the India-China border were opened for battlefield tourism on January 15, 2024.
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang flagged off 25 motorbikes and tourist vehicles from Gangtok.
