Six robotic surgical systems were used together for the procedures, and a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, anaesthesiologists, nursing professionals, technicians and support staff supported the effort.
The 51 patients included 30 men and 21 women, with an average age of 43.6 years (range 21-77) and an average weight of around 122 kg.
The initiative coincided with India's 80th Independence Day and aimed to showcase the country's growing capabilities in advanced robotic and minimally invasive healthcare.
Bhandari has performed more than 40,000 bariatric surgeries, and his institution Mohak Bariatrics and Robotics is recognized by the World Book of Records for the highest number of bariatric surgeries in the Asia-Pacific region.
