Luna 2: Soviet Union's Historic Moon Landing
Long ago, in 1959, the Soviet Union sent a spacecraft called Luna 2 to the Moon.
This was a big deal because it was the first thing humans ever made that landed on the Moon!
Luna 2 was packed with special tools to learn about space.
It took about a day and a half to get there and crashed on purpose.
When Luna 2 hit the Moon, it sent back information about the Moon's surface.
This was an important win for the Soviet Union, and it started a big race between them and the United States to see who could explore space first.
Luna 2, a Soviet spacecraft, became the first human-made object to reach the Moon on September 14, 1959.
The mission was a key achievement in the space race between the USSR and the US.
Luna 2 carried scientific instruments to study the Moon's environment.
The spacecraft's impact site was near the Mare Imbrium.
The event was a propaganda victory for the USSR.
