Panchayats Demand Merger with SBS Nagar District
Some villages in Punjab want to be part of a different district.
Right now, they have to travel very far, like a long car ride, to get to their district's main office.
This is hard for everyone, especially people who don't have much money, old people, or people who work every day.
They are asking the government to move their villages to a closer district called SBS Nagar.
This would make it much easier for them to do important things like government paperwork.
A government leader heard their request and promised to look into it.
Several panchayats in Hoshiarpur's Garhshankar assembly segment demand to be merged with SBS Nagar district.
Residents cite long travel distances (60-80 km) to Hoshiarpur district headquarters as a major inconvenience.
The demand aims to ease administrative difficulties and improve access for vulnerable populations.
Panchayat representatives stated the demand has been pending for years.
Punjab Deputy Speaker Jai Krishan Singh Rouri assured the delegation that the matter would be taken up with the government.
