Australian shares dip amid rate-hike fears
Australian shares went down a bit on Friday because people are worried that interest rates might go up.
This makes banks and other companies that rely on borrowing money less attractive to investors.
However, technology stocks did well, especially a company called NEXTDC, which made a deal with OpenAI to build something called a hyperscale AI campus.
The central bank of Australia is expected to keep interest rates the same for now, but there's a chance they might go up by May 2026.
The overall market is down a little bit this week, but technology stocks are doing better than others.
Australian shares dip 0.2% due to rate-hike fears, set to end the week down 0.1%.
Financials sector drops 0.5%, with Commonwealth Bank of Australia down 0.7%.
Technology stocks surge 1.3%, led by NEXTDC's 10.9% rise after OpenAI collaboration.
Consumer discretionary stocks decline 0.7%, with Wesfarmers and JB Hi-Fi leading the drop.
RBA expected to hold cash rates, with possible hike by May 2026.
