New Crest Gate Installation at Tungabhadra Dam Underway
The Tungabhadra dam is getting a new gate!
Last year, a part of the dam called a crest gate was damaged, causing water to flow out.
Now, a company is building a replacement gate.
This new gate is being built in Gadag and will be put in place by the end of June.
Officials from the Tungabhadra Board are checking on the progress to make sure it's built correctly.
The company is also contracted to build more gates at the dam.
This will help control the water flow from the dam.
A new crest gate is being installed at the 19th sluice gate of the Tungabhadra reservoir.
The Gujarat-based Hardware Tools and Machinery Project Company is constructing the gate.
The 19th gate is being constructed in Gadag and is expected to be installed by the end of June.
The new gate replaces a stop log lost in August 2024, which resulted in the release of water.
Tungabhadra Board officials are overseeing the project and plan to start work on the remaining gates.
