NGT Issues Notice on Agra Green Violations
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has sent a notice to the central government, the Uttar Pradesh government, and other authorities about a complaint.
The complaint says that people are cutting down trees and building things illegally in a special green area near the Taj Mahal in Agra.
The NGT is concerned because this is harming the environment and the homes of birds and butterflies.
They have asked the authorities to respond to these allegations.
The next hearing about this issue is scheduled for March 12, 2026.
The applicant, Jagan Prasad Tehriya, provided photographs showing the damage to the area's green cover, which could also harm the habitat of birds and butterflies in the area.
The NGT has taken serious note of the allegations and has asked the Agra Development Authority to submit a reply within four weeks.
NGT issued a notice to the Centre, Uttar Pradesh government, and others regarding a plea about illegal felling of trees and encroachments in Agra's ecological sensitive zone.
The plea alleges that the Agra Development Authority is constructing structures in the century-old Shahjahan Park, damaging green cover and affecting wildlife habitats.
The tribunal noted allegations of pits being dug near the roots of century-old trees and the illegal construction of a selfie point on a green belt.
Numerous private individuals are accused of cutting trees and erecting buildings on the mandatory green belt along the Agra-Gwalior highway.
The matter has been posted for further proceedings on March 12, 2026, with the respondents including various government authorities and agencies.
