West Bengal PAC Formation Unanimous Amid Opposition Factional Divide

West Bengal PAC Formation Unanimous Amid Opposition Factional Divide

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in the West Bengal Assembly is being formed without any contest because there are exactly 20 nominations, matching the committee's strength.

This means no election is needed unless a nomination is withdrawn or challenged.

The opposition party, Trinamool Congress, shows a factional divide with one nominee from the Kalighat group and five from the Ritabrata Bandopadhyay camp.

The ruling side has nominated 14 members.

The focus is now on choosing the PAC chairman, which by convention goes to the opposition.

Firhad Hakim is the frontrunner, which could strengthen the Ritabrata camp's position.

Past controversies involved opposition parties boycotting PAC meetings due to perceived bias in chairman appointments.
