Latvia Delays Vote on Quitting Istanbul Convention Until Post-Election
Latvia's politicians decided not to vote on leaving a special agreement about stopping violence against women.
They will wait until after an election happens next year.
Some politicians wanted to leave this agreement, called the Istanbul Convention.
This agreement says that hurting women is wrong and against their rights.
The Prime Minister is happy they are waiting to decide.
This means the decision will be made after people vote for their new leaders.
Latvian lawmakers have postponed a vote on withdrawing from the Istanbul Convention.
The decision to leave the treaty will now be made after the parliamentary election in October next year.
The Istanbul Convention aims to combat violence against women.
The treaty defines violence against women as a human rights violation.
The Prime Minister supports the delay in the vote.
