Delhi Expands Rooftop Solar Scheme, Cuts Metering Time

Delhi Expands Rooftop Solar Scheme, Cuts Metering Time

Delhi is changing its solar energy policy to help more homes use solar panels.

Some households that use up to 400 electricity units each month may get solar systems up to 3 kW without paying upfront.

The systems will also receive maintenance support for five years.

Extra electricity made by the panels can be sent to power companies.

In return, households can receive payment through net metering.

The time needed to approve net metering has been reduced from 75 days to 25 days.

The government wants more than two lakh homes to join the scheme by March 2027.

It also wants Delhi to produce 500 MW of solar power.

Officials say the plan is intended to support cleaner and cheaper electricity.
