BMC Elections 2026: BJP Emerges Strong, Congress Faces Turmoil
The BJP did really well in the Mumbai BMC elections, becoming the biggest party with 89 seats.
Their leader, Devendra Fadnavis, said they could have won even more if things had gone differently.
The Congress party, on the other hand, had a bad time.
They won fewer seats than before, and one of their leaders, Bhai Jagtap, said the party's leader in Mumbai, Varsha Gaikwad, should step down because of this.
The Congress party then told Jagtap to explain why he said that.
Some other parties and leaders also had ups and downs, with some winning back their seats and others losing.
It was a big election with lots of changes!
BJP emerges as the single largest party in BMC elections with 89 seats and 45% vote share.
Congress faces its worst performance, winning only 24 seats, leading to calls for Mumbai Congress chief Varsha Gaikwad's resignation by MLC Bhai Jagtap.
Congress issues a show-cause notice to Jagtap for demanding Gaikwad's resignation, citing breach of party discipline.
Notable comebacks include Yashodhar Phanse, Yamini Jadhav, and Ajit Raorane, while heavyweights like Raja and Yogiraj Dabhadkar lost their seats.
VBA alleges Congress ignored minority voters and infighting led to loss of seats, also claiming vote counting manipulation in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
