Uttar Pradesh Launches Filaria Elimination Drug Program
Uttar Pradesh is starting a program to get rid of filaria, a disease spread by mosquitos.
Starting August 10, 2025, they will give out free medicine to about 44.3 million people.
People will take the medicine once a year for five years to kill the parasites that cause the disease.
The medicine is safe for most people, even those with long-term health problems.
If you feel a little sick after taking it, that means it's working.
Trained health workers will give out the medicine, and they will have help available in case anyone has a bad reaction.
Children under two, pregnant women, and very sick people will not get the medicine.
Uttar Pradesh is launching a Mass Drug Administration (MDA) program on August 10, 2025, to eliminate filaria.
The campaign will target approximately 44.3 million people across 27 districts.
Anti-filaria drugs will be administered annually for five years to make the state filaria-free.
The drugs are considered safe, even for those with chronic illnesses; side effects may include nausea or dizziness.
The program will involve a two-drug or three-drug regimen, depending on the district.
