Nepal Flood Death Toll Reaches 469, 977 Still Missing
Large floods have badly damaged parts of Nepal’s Bhotekoshi region.
Officials think an avalanche upstream helped cause the flooding.
The water swept away homes, roads, power projects and other buildings.
At least 469 bodies have been recovered.
Another 977 people are still out of contact with their families or authorities.
Many of those people are citizens of other countries.
Rescue workers have saved more than 3,000 people and are using helicopters to help stranded communities.
The government is asking aid groups to coordinate before bringing supplies so emergency vehicles can get through.
Officials are continuing search, rescue and relief work.
Nepal’s flood death toll has risen to 469, while 977 people remain out of contact.
The disaster was believed to have been triggered by an avalanche on a transboundary river between Nepal and China.
Among those out of contact are 517 foreign nationals, including 290 Indians, approximately 90 Americans and nearly 100 Chinese nationals.
Authorities have rescued 3,253 people, injured 73, and mobilised 13,295 security personnel for response operations.
