Bengal Electoral Roll Revision: Training Begins, Controversy Arises
The Election Commission is training officials in West Bengal to update the voter lists, a process called SIR.
The training started Tuesday.
This has caused controversy.
BJP supports the SIR, saying it's needed to remove inaccurate voters.
Opposition parties are critical, asking for a transparent system, some claiming it's not fair to certain voter groups or even collusive.
The process is happening before Bihar elections as well.
The Supreme Court is watching to ensure fairness.
ECI began training poll officers in West Bengal for the SIR.
The training started with a virtual meeting.
The SIR is similar to a process in Bihar.
Opposition parties have expressed concerns about the SIR.
BJP leaders support the SIR, citing the need for accurate voter rolls.
