SC Refuses Bail to Mumbai BMW Hit-and-Run Accused
The Supreme Court of India decided not to allow Mihir Shah, the son of a former Shiv Sena leader, to get bail in a serious accident case.
Mihir was driving a BMW when he hit a scooter, killing a woman and injuring her husband.
Instead of stopping, he drove away, dragging the victim under his car for more than 1.5 kilometers.
The court said that Mihir and his driver, who was also arrested, should stay in jail because they tried to run away and hide what happened.
The court thought that letting them go would send the wrong message, especially since Mihir comes from a wealthy family.
The high court had already said no to bail, calling Mihir's actions reckless and dangerous.
The Supreme Court refused to entertain the bail plea of Mihir Shah in the 2024 Mumbai BMW hit-and-run case.
Mihir Shah, 24, was arrested for allegedly ramming his BMW into a two-wheeler, killing Kaveri Nakhwa and injuring her husband.
The incident occurred on July 9, 2023, in Mumbai’s Worli area, where Shah allegedly sped off after hitting the scooter, dragging the victim for over 1.5 kilometers.
The Bombay High Court denied bail to Shah, citing his inebriated state, failure to stop after the accident, and attempts to evade arrest.
The Supreme Court noted Shah's affluent background and the need to teach him a lesson, refusing to entertain his bail plea.
