Mumbai University Staff Launch Phased Protest Over Demands
Teachers at the University of Mumbai are starting a protest because they have many problems that haven't been fixed for a long time.
These problems include too many jobs being empty and the process for signing up students not working well with the process for giving exams.
First, they will wear black ribbons for a few days to show they are unhappy.
Then, they will have bigger protests starting on November 20, and a special sit-in protest called a 'chain dharna' will begin on November 24.
They hope this will make the university listen to their demands.
University of Mumbai Academic Staff Association (UMASA) begins phased protest from Monday.
Protest aims to address long-pending issues such as vacant positions, coordination problems between admissions and examinations.
Teachers will initially wear black ribbons for three days as a sign of dissent.
Further agitations are planned from November 20, including a 'chain dharna' protest on November 24.
