US Announces Tougher Iran Sanctions Amid Strait Tensions

The United States says it will announce very tough new sanctions against Iran.

Sanctions are rules that make it harder for a country to trade and use money.

Scott Bessent said the goal is to cut off Iran’s remaining economic connections.

President Donald Trump called the plan an “economic D-Day.”

Iran rejected the threat and said it showed the United States had been defeated.

Iran also warned ships using the Strait of Hormuz to follow its rules.

Ships that break those rules could be fined, detained, or confiscated.

The United States says its forces have redirected, disabled, or boarded several commercial vessels during the confrontation.
