Torrent Power secures 10-year LNG deal with JERA
Torrent Power, a company in India, has made a big deal with JERA, a Japanese company.
They will get a lot of liquefied natural gas (LNG) every year for 10 years, starting in 2027.
Torrent Power will use this LNG to make electricity at their power plants and also to provide gas to homes, businesses, and vehicles.
This deal helps Torrent Power meet the growing need for electricity in India and supports the use of cleaner energy.
JERA, which is owned by two other big power companies in Japan, wants to have a strong supply of LNG in different parts of the world.
Both companies plan to explore more deals to get even more LNG in the future.
Torrent Power signed a 10-year deal with JERA for 0.27 MMTPA of LNG starting in 2027.
The LNG will be used to operate Torrent Power's 2,730 MW combined cycle gas-based power plants and support its city-gas distribution arm, Torrent Gas.
The deal aims to meet rising electricity demand, support peak-hour requirements, and balance renewable energy generation in India.
Torrent Power and Torrent Gas plan to explore more medium- and long-term LNG supply deals to enhance portfolio diversity and meet growing demand.
JERA aims to build a robust LNG portfolio across multiple regions, leveraging complementary seasonal demand patterns between Japan and India.
