Cyber Fraud Attempt Targeting Pensioner in Bhopal
Imagine someone pretending to be a government worker who handles pensions.
This fake worker called an older gentleman, Rajendra, who receives a pension.
The fake worker said Rajendra's pension card needed updating and that he would get extra money soon.
To make it seem real, the caller used a fake government picture on his phone.
He even knew Rajendra's sister's name!
But when the fake worker asked for Rajendra's bank account number and a secret code (OTP), Rajendra got suspicious.
He didn't give the information, and the caller disappeared.
Now, the police are investigating because they think these bad guys might have secret information about many pensioners.
Cyber fraudsters attempted to scam a 72-year-old pensioner in Bhopal by posing as treasury officials.
The conmen called the pensioner on October 28, claiming to update his pension and release arrears.
They used fake government logos and insignia on their WhatsApp profile to appear credible.
The pensioner grew suspicious when asked for his bank details, ATM number, and OTP and refused to share.
The Cyber Crime Branch has registered a case, investigating potential leaks of sensitive pensioner data.
