At first, when someone gives a little money, it looks like they earn money back.
But this is a trick to make them trust the scammers.
Then the scammers ask for bigger and bigger amounts of money.
When the person wants their money back, the scammers make excuses and delay.
Sometimes they ask for even more money for fees or taxes.
The police in Kerala are telling everyone to be careful, and to call the special helpline number 1930 if this happens to them.
Kerala Police warned the public about scammers promising high-income work-from-home online jobs and big investment returns through a fake app called NTL.
Fake advertisements spread on WhatsApp and Telegram lure victims into downloading and registering on the NTL app.
Victims are falsely shown receiving commissions and are sometimes allowed small withdrawals to gain their trust before being persuaded to invest larger amounts.
Withdrawal requests are delayed with reasons like pending review, processing, or holidays, and more money is demanded for fees, taxes, or verification.
Police advised victims to contact the cyber helpline 1930 or the portal www.cybercrime.gov.in and warned against sharing personal information, OTPs, or UPI PINs.
