Road Safety Awareness Programs Highlight Drunk Driving Dangers
Two different places held special programs to teach people about road safety.
One was at a college in Anantapur, where a police officer talked about why it's important to follow traffic rules.
He said things like not speeding, not driving after drinking, and always wearing helmets or seat belts can save lives.
The other program was in Mangaluru, where the police chief said that if someone causes an accident while drunk driving, they could go to jail for up to 10 years.
He also said that many accidents happen because people are not careful, not because the roads are bad.
Both programs had important people speaking and many attendees learning about how to stay safe on the roads.
A road safety awareness program was conducted at Ananthalakshmi Engineering College under the NSS, emphasizing traffic rules and safety measures.
Sub-Inspector Vijay Kumar warned about the dangers of speeding and drunk driving, stressing the importance of helmets and seat belts.
Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy announced that drunk driving deaths will be treated as culpable homicide with up to 10 years in prison.
The Mangaluru program highlighted that 169 out of 171 accidents in 2025 were due to driver negligence, with only a few linked to poor road infrastructure.
Both programs emphasized collective responsibility and the need for drivers to be alert and cautious to prevent accidents.
