After Maha, Gujarat bans analogue paneer, cheese, butter · rediff.com

Gujarat is a state in India where lots of milk is produced.

Paneer is a soft cheese that is usually made from pure milk.

Some companies were making fake paneer using vegetable oil and other non-dairy ingredients instead of milk.

Fake paneer looks similar to real paneer but has less protein and is not as nutritious.

The Gujarat government decided to ban the making, selling, storing, transporting and distributing of this fake paneer, cheese and butter.

The government said the ban will protect people's health and stop consumers from being tricked.

It also protects farmers who make real milk and dairy products.

Three Indian states now have this ban: Gujarat, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.

People and businesses that break the rule will face legal action.
