Heavy Rain Forecast Across Madhya Pradesh; Dam Gates Opened
Two weather systems are bringing a lot of rain to parts of Madhya Pradesh.
The weather department said Rewa, Satna, Panna and nearby districts could receive heavy rain.
Rain is also expected in many other districts on September 8 and 9.
Rising water levels led officials to open two gates of Kaliyasot Dam in Bhopal.
Heavy rain damaged a gate near Ujjain’s Mahakal Temple.
Floodwater also covered a bridge in Morena.
A young man who was swept away by floodwater in Shivpuri was later found dead.
Some farms, including soybean fields, may be damaged by standing water.
Even with the recent rain, several districts still have less rain than usual for the season.
The India Meteorological Department forecast heavy rain in six districts, including Rewa, Satna, Panna and Chhatarpur, over the next 24 hours.
Two gates of Bhopal’s Kaliyasot Dam were reopened as water levels rose after heavy rainfall.
A gate near Ujjain’s Mahakal Temple collapsed, while flooding submerged a bridge in Morena district.
A 21-year-old man, Ram Rawat, was found dead after reportedly being swept away while crossing a flooded causeway in Shivpuri.
Rainfall deficits remain in several eastern and western districts despite improved conditions in eastern Madhya Pradesh.
