Rohit Sharma Tops ICC ODI Rankings for First Time, Former Captains Express Surprise
Imagine a cricket game where players get points for how well they play.
Rohit Sharma, a great player from India, just got to the very top spot for the best one-day international (ODI) player in the whole world.
It's the first time this has ever happened for him!
Even though he's been playing for a long time and scored lots of runs, including some super-high scores, he had never reached this number one position before.
Some cricket experts, like Nasser Hussain from England and Dinesh Karthik from India, were surprised he hadn't reached number one sooner.
They remember him playing amazingly well, even in the big 2019 World Cup, but he was still behind other players then.
Now, after a great game where he scored a century (100 runs) against Australia, he's finally at the top!
Rohit Sharma has reached the number one spot in the ICC men's ODI player rankings for the first time.
This achievement followed his match-winning century against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Former England captain Nasser Hussain expressed surprise, questioning why Sharma hadn't reached No. 1 earlier given his career.
Dinesh Karthik was also taken aback, noting Sharma's exceptional performance in the 2019 World Cup without reaching the top ranking then.
Sharma has been a high-scoring player since 2023, with a significant number of runs, fifties, and centuries.
