Study Finds Scholars Use AI Despite Fears of Professional Shame

Study Finds Scholars Use AI Despite Fears of Professional Shame

A new study looked at how researchers use generative AI in their work.

It surveyed 1,138 communication scholars in 77 countries.

About seven in ten said they use AI for at least one research task.

They use it for jobs such as proofreading, coding, finding research, and brainstorming.

AI can make difficult or repetitive work faster and easier.

However, researchers worry that AI can give wrong answers, expose private information, or repeat unfair biases.

Some are also concerned about the electricity and water needed to run large AI systems.

Researchers may feel embarrassed or worried that others will judge them if they admit using AI.

The study says universities should provide flexible rules that require openness and careful human checking rather than banning AI outright.
