Himachal Pradesh Assembly Passes University Recruitment Amendment Amid Opposition

The Himachal Pradesh Assembly approved a new law about hiring staff at state universities.

The government says the law will make hiring more transparent and based on merit.

It says some jobs will be filled through state recruitment commissions.

Universities will still appoint professors and associate professors themselves.

BJP lawmakers and university teachers opposed the law.

They worry that outside agencies could reduce universities’ independence.

The CPI(M) said alleged hiring problems should be investigated instead of changing who controls recruitment.

The Bill passed despite these objections.
