China Launches $72 Billion Loan Backstop for Private Sector
China has introduced a big loan program worth $72 billion to help private companies.
The government will cover most of the risk for these loans, making it easier for banks to lend money to small and medium-sized businesses.
This is because these businesses are having a hard time getting loans and are struggling due to low demand and high costs.
The program will last for two years and also includes subsidies to make loans cheaper.
However, some people are not sure if this will be enough to really help because banks might still be careful about lending, and there are bigger problems like low consumer spending that need to be fixed.
China has launched a $72 billion loan guarantee program to support private firms.
The government will cover up to 80% of the risk for qualifying loans.
The program aims to boost credit access for small and medium-sized enterprises.
Interest subsidies and consumer loan support are extended to the end of 2026.
Weak demand and cautious lending by banks raise doubts about the program's effectiveness.
