BCCI Not Recognized as National Sports Federation
The BCCI, which runs cricket in India, is not officially recognized as a National Sports Federation (NSF) because it doesn't take money from the government.
The government recently passed a new law called the National Sports Governance Act, which will change this.
Starting next year, the BCCI will have to register as an NSF because cricket is now an Olympic sport.
The new law will also create a board to make sure all sports federations follow good rules.
The government has also changed some rules about transparency so that only federations that take government money have to share their information.
This is important because the BCCI has always said it doesn't need to follow these rules since it doesn't take government money.
BCCI is not recognized as a National Sports Federation (NSF) due to its financial independence.
National Sports Governance Act passed in August 2023, to be fully implemented in 2024.
BCCI will have to register as an NSF once the new Act comes into effect due to cricket's inclusion in the Olympics.
Government amended RTI Act to apply only to NSFs relying on government grants.
Accounts of NSFs receiving annual grants over Rs. 1 crore are audited by the Comptroller & Auditor General (CAG) of India.
