India Hits 50% Clean Energy Milestone
India has reached an important goal by getting 50% of its electricity from clean sources like solar and wind power.
This is five years ahead of their plan!
They added a lot of new clean energy in 2025, making more solar panels and wind turbines.
But now, they need to make sure the electricity grid and storage systems can handle all this new clean energy.
They also want to use more bioenergy like ethanol and nuclear power to make their energy supply more stable.
The next big challenge is to make sure everything works together smoothly.
India achieved 50% of its total electricity capacity from non-fossil sources in 2025, five years ahead of the 2030 target.
The total non-fossil power installed capacity reached 262.74 GW in November 2025, which is 51.5% of the total installed electricity capacity in the country.
In 2025, India added 44.51 GW of renewable energy capacity, nearly double the amount added in the same period last year.
Solar energy capacity reached 132.85 GW in November 2025, an increase of over 41% compared to November 2024.
India's energy storage deployment remains far below projected national needs, with only 490 MWh installed by June 2025, while the National Electricity Plan estimates requirements of 411.4 GWh by 2031-32.
