Iran’s Rial Hits Record Low Amid Inflation and Sanctions

Iran’s Rial Hits Record Low Amid Inflation and Sanctions

Iran’s money, called the rial, is worth less than ever compared with the United States dollar.

This means people in Iran need more rials to buy the same amount of goods priced in dollars.

Analysts say economic pressure and sanctions have contributed to the decline.

The United States Treasury launched a maximum-pressure campaign against Iran on August 24, 2026.

Prices in Iran are also rising very quickly.

Annual inflation has gone above 60%.

Food prices rose 128.1% compared with the same period a year earlier.

As food becomes more expensive, families can afford less with their money.
